Staff roles and permissions: owner, staff and cashier
Who can do what in Pop Street Commerce. The owner can do everything, staff run daily work, and cashiers use the register.
Updated Oct 25, 2026
Every person signs in with their own account. Their role decides what they can see and change.
The three roles
- Owner. Everything. Only owners can manage the team, change settings, enter keys, connect marketplaces, set channel set-up and price rules, and open the Licence page.
- Staff. The daily work: stock, orders, messages, marketplaces (to view and publish), the register and the end-of-day close-out.
- Cashier. The register, orders (to read), inventory (to read) and the end-of-day close-out. A cashier cannot change products or settings.
Why it matters
Keys, prices and settings can change how your business runs, and they can cost you money if changed by mistake. Keeping them with the owner means a busy Saturday cannot break a connection.
Adding someone
- Sign in as the owner and open Team.
- Add the person, choose their role and save. If you would rather not, ask us and we will add them.
- Give them their sign-in details privately, never in a group message, and ask them to choose their own password.
Your first owner sign-in is created for you at go-live. There are no sample users on a live store.
Good habits
- Give the smallest role that does the job. A cashier does not need to be staff.
- One person, one sign-in. Do not share a password. Then you can tell who did what.
- Use long passwords that are not used anywhere else.
- Remove people the day they leave.
- Keep at least one other owner you trust if you often travel or are unwell, so the business can still run. Tell us if you need help with this.
Protection built in
Pop Street Commerce signs people out after a period of inactivity. Five wrong passwords lock a sign-in for ten minutes.
If you see a "not allowed" message
The role does not include that screen. Ask the owner, or ask us if the owner is locked out. We will confirm who you are first.
