The Trips screen lists your trips, newest first. You can start a trip for an asset and end a running trip, and you can narrow the list to one asset.
Before you start #
- Open Fleet, then Trips. The screen opens for the owner, manager, dispatcher and advisor roles.
- The forms for starting and ending a trip appear when your license includes the Fleet module and allows changes. Without them you can still read the list.
- Add your assets first. The start form lists your active assets.
Steps #
- Read the table. Its columns are Started, Asset, Purpose, Route, Status and Distance from positions. Status reads Running or Ended. A distance taken from positions carries the word "estimate".
- To look at one asset, pick it in Show one asset. The list reloads for that asset.
- To start a trip, fill in Start a trip: choose the Asset (required). Add Person number, Purpose, From, To and the Odometer when you know them. Select Start a trip. The trip appears in the list as Running.
- To end a trip, open End a trip, choose the trip under Running trip, add the closing Odometer if you have it, and select End a trip. The row changes to Ended.
- Select an asset number in the Asset column to open that asset.
Technical details
- The list reads
GET /fleet/tripswith the asset filter and a limit of 50. Starting posts to/fleet/tripsand ending posts to/fleet/trips/:id/end. - Empty fields are left out of the request.
- The End a trip menu lists the running trips found in the loaded list.
If something goes wrong #
- "No trips." means no trip matches the filter. Choose another asset or start one.
- "This license has no Fleet module, so changes are turned off." and "The license is read-only, so changes are paused." mean the forms stay hidden or are refused. See fleet-without-the-license.
- "Your role may not do this." means your role cannot make the change.
- An asset that already has a running trip cannot start another. End the running trip first.
