You will connect your own Telnyx account so Pop Dispatch can send customer text messages. Telnyx charges you for the number and for each message; Pop Dispatch adds no fee.
Before you start #
- You need the owner or manager role.
- Read Telnyx's pages on messaging rules for your country. Some countries require registration before texts are delivered. Telnyx's developer pages (developers.telnyx.com) are the source for those rules.
Create the account, number and profile #
- Go to telnyx.com and sign up in the Mission Control portal.
- Open Numbers > Search & Buy, filter for SMS and buy a number.
- Open Messaging and add a new messaging profile. Save it.
- Open My Numbers and set your number's Messaging Profile to the one you made. A number without a profile makes Telnyx refuse the text.
- Write the number down with a plus and its country code.
Make an API key #
- In the portal, open API Keys.
- Create a key and copy it.
Connect it in Pop Dispatch #
- Open Settings > Connections and find "Telnyx text messages".
- Type the API key and the sending number.
- In "Country code for numbers without one", type the digits your customers' numbers start with, for example 1.
- Select "Save details", then "Switch on".
- Select "Test connection". Pop Dispatch asks Telnyx for your messaging profiles with the key. The test sends no text.
Check a real message #
- Add your own mobile number to a test customer.
- Move a test tow call to "Dispatched" and open Settings > Customer messages. The outbox lists a text message as "Sent".
Technical details
Pop Dispatch sends each text with a POST to https://api.telnyx.com/v2/messages, with the key as a bearer token and a JSON body of from, to and text. Numbers are sent in international format, such as +15551234567. Telnyx documents this at developers.telnyx.com.
If something goes wrong #
- "Telnyx did not accept the account details": copy the key again.
- "Telnyx answered 403": the sending number has no messaging profile. Assign one under My Numbers.
