A rotation list gives each unit its turn at police calls. The unit that has waited longest since its last turn is next. When a unit cannot go, you skip it with a reason, and Pop Dispatch keeps the record.
Before you start #
You need the dispatcher, advisor, manager or owner role. Make one list for each agency or area you serve.
Steps #
In the web console, choose Police rotation in the menu. The lists are on the left. The page shows the next unit up in a large card, the order of units and the log.
- Make the list with a name and the agency (Make a list).
- Add each unit by its label, for example the truck number. You can link a truck and a driver. A unit added later joins at the back.
- Look at the list. It shows the units in turn order, who is next up, and who was skipped for the current call.
- When a call comes in, choose Take turn. The unit moves to the back of the list.
- When the next unit cannot take the call, choose Skip with a reason and type the reason (at least three characters). The next unit takes this call. The skipped unit keeps its place and is first in line for the next call.
- To send a different unit out of turn, choose Send out of turn on its row and type the reason.
- Choose Take off the list on a unit that leaves the rotation. Its history stays in the log.
Technical details
- Routes under
/dispatch/rotation/lists: list and make;/:idto read;/:id/unitsto add;/:id/units/:unitto remove;/:id/next,/:id/turnand/:id/skip. All need the Tow group of roles. - Order: oldest last-turn time first, ties to the lower unit id. Turn times always move forward, even for two turns in the same second.
- Each turn, skip, addition and removal is a row in the rotation log, and each change adds an audit log entry that names the list, the unit and the reason.
- The earlier request
POST /dispatch/rotationstill answers who is next from a list you send it.
If something goes wrong #
- "Enter the reason this unit was skipped": a skip needs at least three characters of reason.
- "Another unit is next up": add the reason for sending it out of turn.
- "This list has no unit to send": add units, or take the skips back by giving a turn.
