Etsy: only for products that qualify

Etsy is for handmade, vintage and craft supplies. Check what qualifies before setting anything up, then see how Pop Street Commerce lists on Etsy.

Etsy is a marketplace for items you made or designed, vintage items and craft supplies. Resold factory-made goods are generally not allowed. Etsy decides what qualifies, and an account can be suspended for listing items that do not.

So check first. Read Etsy's own seller rules before paying any fee or connecting anything. If most of your catalogue is bought-in goods, Etsy is probably not for you, and that is fine.

Decide which products qualify

In Pop Street Commerce, mark every product that does not qualify as Exclude from this channel. Only the rest will ever be sent to Etsy.

What you need

  1. An Etsy shop with billing set up. Etsy charges fees per listing and per sale.
  2. A shipping profile and a return policy in the shop.
  3. An Etsy developer app and its key. We register it with you. Etsy may review it and decides what access it gets, so we cannot promise a one-tap connection.
  4. A category for each shelf, chosen from Etsy's own list.
  5. Your sign-in and approval, using the Connect button.

How a listing is made

  1. Pop Street Commerce creates a draft with the title, description, price, quantity, who made it, when it was made, category, shipping profile, return policy and tags.
  2. It uploads each photo as a file, because Etsy does not take a link.
  3. It makes the listing active. Etsy charges its listing fee at that point.

Limits to know

  • Sizes and colours. For now Pop Street Commerce sends one listing with the lowest price and the total quantity. Fuller support for variations is still in build.
  • Tags. Etsy allows a limited number, and each must be short.
  • Busy limits. Etsy limits how fast an app can ask for things. If you see a "too many requests" message, wait a few minutes.

Common messages

  • Who made it or when made is not valid. Check the product's details against Etsy's accepted values.
  • Category not valid. Pick a more specific category.
  • Listing needs a photo. Upload at least one real photo.
